Today was a great day against Milford and Indian Hill.  We really played good lacrosse.

We had West Side, Ground Hog, California, Jack-a-lac, Rudy, Big Mac, Canisius and the Needle all win face-offs!

Our ability to pick up ground balls at full speed and pass the ball on the run up field right away to the attack or middies was the difference.  We won those games because we played better lacrosse than our opponents who were bigger and stronger than we were.

Our goalie clinic really paid off: Bulls Eye, Land Lord, Torpedo, and West Side played great in shifts in the cage!  We have great defenders, but our middies really a nice job clearing the ball this week.

Our attack is starting to figure it out. Let the ball do the work.  Passing to the weak side post to the open man is the key.

Congratulations to “Smiley” who had his first  talley of his lacrosse career yesterday.

I can tell which players are practicing lacrosse on their own and who is simply playing on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. It is showing up as success on the field.

Make sure you are picking up your sticks on days other than Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday because there is no substitute for the ability to “pass and catch”.  We will work on fundamentals this week on Wednesday: ground balls on the run, passing on the run, shooting on the run, and catching on the run.

I urge each player to find a buddy or their dad to play catch and practice with your stick on the days that we do not have lacrosse practices or games.

Many have asked about lacrosse camps, and the lacrosse camps that are excellent for you to attend are outlined below.  I urge you to go to lacrosse camp if you are serious about improving your game.  Every player that goes to lacrosse camp comes back a better player.

Here are the details:

One camp is in Terrace Park from June 25th – June 29th at Drackett Field and it is called B&B Lacrosse Camp.  You can send a registration email to gbuczek@mausercorp.com to get yourself on the pre-registration list.  The camp is 8:00 – 3:00 each day at Drackett.  Please register on line at: www.eteamz.com/bandblacrosse

The second one is The Lacrosse Academy  www.thelacrosseacademy.com for boys that are going into 6th grade or just finished 6th grade.  This is an overnight camp at Denison University and there are two sessions: July 7th-10th and July 12th-15th.   Many boys from the program go to this camp because it is the best teaching camp in the US.  Reed Peterson who was a HS All American from Mariemont and now plays Division 1 at Bellarmine University will be on the staff of Deinison and the B&B Camp.
